CrossAlta is a joint venture of BP Canada Energy Company and TransCanada PipeLines Limited. Formed in 1994, CrossAlta has established an industry reputation for customer responsiveness and reliable service.
The CrossAlta storage facility is located near the town of Crossfield, Alberta, just north of Calgary. The plant's gas-driven and electrically-driven compressors and gas processing facilities are staffed around the clock. Gas is stored in a depleted reservoir that had been used to produce gas at this location since the 1960's.
CrossAlta serves a variety of customers, including marketers, utilities, aggregators and producers. Our customers use storage for price arbitrage, risk management, operational balancing, transportation cost minimization, and to provide supply security for themselves and their customers.
The facility is connected to the TransCanada's Alberta system, and boasts peak withdrawal capacity of 537 TJ/day (480 Mmscf/day), expandable to 1,122 TJ/day (1Bcf/day). Working gas capacity is 56 PJ (50 Bcf), expandable to 89 PJ (80 Bcf).
